Spence Fischer, a three-year starter at Duke, was the first  quarterback selected Monday in the All American Football League collegiate draft.

He was chosen by the Birmingham Barracudas on the first day of the AAFL's college player draft. Fischer threw for 2,668 yards and 12 touchdowns during his senior year at Duke.

“This league has opened up some new opportunities for many players,” Fischer said. “It's very exciting for me, as it is for all these players. It also gives me another option along with the NFL if that opportunity arises.”

Other notable quarterbacks who were drafted included Jeff Lewis (Northern Arizona) by Las Vegas, Jon Stark (FSU) by Miami, and Mike Cawley (James Madison) by Memphis.
